NRSC calls on Gov’t to repair Cape Coast- Kakum road to boost tourism

Central Regional Manager of the National Road Safety Commission says government must, as a matter of urgency, repair the road linking Cape Coast to the Kakum National Park, or risk losing more tourists.
According to Stephen Anokye, statistics shows the 13km stretch of road that links Cape Coast to the Kakum National Park accounts for a huge number of deaths through road accidents in the area.
Kakum National Park is one of Ghana’s most attractive tourist sites, drawing about 180,000 visitors from all over the world each year.
But in recent times, the park has recorded a 30 per cent drop in revenue due to the dilapidated road, a situation which has discouraged many tourists.
Joy News’ Richard Kwadwo Nyarko said a number of damaged vehicles have been left in the bushes along the road that leads to the park.
Commercial drivers who ply the deadly road full of pot holes have cried out to government to immediately attend to the poor road condition to avoid further loss of lives.
Many tourists have also complained bitterly about the road. “It needs to get fixed; I think it will make it a more pleasant experience”, one tourist said.
