The initiative, the channels says, will enable children create their imaginative characters which will later be used on their channel.
Dubbed Cartoon Network Imagination Studios, kids aged four to 14 will be taught the basics of animation creation before they submit their imaginary characters into the competition.
Pierre Branco, VP & MD Southern Europe and Africa of Turner, parent company of Cartoon Network announced Friday during Turner Press Conference as part of activities lined up for this year’s MultiChoice Africa Content Showcase Extravaganza in Mauritius.
“We will give them behind the scenes experience of what our studios are. They can see exactly what our creators do, how they do it. They will also get a lot of workshops where they will get a wide range of tools to understand what entails when it comes to developing their cartoon character,” he said.
Pierre said the idea behind Imagination Studios is to foster kids’ creativity and “at the end, the best character will be animated,” in the channel’s popular show, The Amazing World of Gumball.
The initiative will kick off in November this year and end in February 2016 in all countries except South Africa.
“It’s going to start in the rest of Africa then come to South Africa. It’s going to be available in African countries,” he noted.
